The LTC1911 is a switched capacitor step-down DC/DC converter that produces a regulated output of 1.5V or 1.8V from an input voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V. It utilizes switched capacitor fractional conversion to achieve high efficiency without the need for inductors. The part's internal circuitry optimizes the conversion ratio based on input voltage and load conditions, resulting in an efficiency typically 25% higher than linear regulators.
The LTC1911 employs a unique constant frequency architecture that provides a low-noise regulated output and lower input noise compared to conventional charge pump regulators. High-frequency operation (1.5MHz) simplifies output filtering, further reducing conducted noise. To enhance efficiency, the part enters Burst Mode operation under light load conditions.
With low operating current (180μA with no load, 10µA in shutdown) and a minimal external component count (two 1μF flying capacitors and two 10uF bypass capacitors), the LTC1911 is ideal for space-constrained battery-powered applications.
