The MC14046B phase-locked loop (PLL) is a versatile integrated circuit that combines two phase comparators, a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO), a source follower, and a zener diode. The phase comparators feature common signal inputs (PCA and PCB) and provide digital error signals (PCIout, PC2out, and LD). The VCO generates an output signal (VCOout) whose frequency is determined by the voltage applied to its input (VCO) and external components (CIA, CIB, RI, and R2). The source follower (SFout) provides a buffered output of the VCO signal, while the zener diode assists in power supply regulation.
